About UTECA
UTECA brings technology employers and organized labor together around one national objective: a stronger American technology workforce.
Our Story
UTECA was created to address a growing challenge in the American economy.
Employers need access to current skills, flexible workforce pathways and an environment that allows them to compete globally. Technology professionals need credible pathways to learn emerging technologies, move into new roles and build sustainable careers. Organized labor has an opportunity to play a larger role in the technology economy by working directly with employers on skills, careers, workforce standards and opportunity.
UTECA brings these interests together. Technology employers and organized labor can accomplish more through structured collaboration than through separate approaches to the same workforce challenges.
Mission
To unite technology employers and organized labor to strengthen America's technology workforce, expand domestic high-value technology careers, develop future-ready skills and improve the competitiveness of U.S. technology employers.
Vision
An America in which technology innovation and workforce opportunity advance together, more high-value technology work is performed domestically, workers can continuously adapt to technological change, and employers have access to the skills required to compete and grow.
Principles
America's technology workforce must remain globally competitive in skills, productivity, adaptability and innovation.
Strong domestic employers are essential to sustainable American technology careers.
Constructive labor-management relationships can create better workforce outcomes.
Workers should have opportunities to reskill and transition as technology changes.
America should maintain and expand the people and capabilities needed to perform high-value technology work.
AI and automation should be accompanied by serious workforce planning.
Career opportunity should be supported by demonstrated capability, continuous learning and professional excellence.
Technology workforce policy should be practical, evidence-informed and focused on long-term national competitiveness.
Employers, labor, education, workforce organizations and government each have a role in building the future workforce.
